The elephants that continue to be the major crowd puller during Jamboo Savari, a colourful procession on Vijayadashami, the 10th day after Navarathri (that falls on October 12 this year), have been the major attractions on the streets of Mysuru.

The people with curiosity lit large on their faces, gather on the either side of Jamboo Savari route, Albert Victor road, K R Circle, Sayyajirao road, Government Ayurveda Hospital Circle, old RMC junction, Bamboo Bazaar and Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Circle ( Highway Circle), during morning and evening times.

A total of 14 elephants led by 750-kg Golden Howdah carrier Abhimanyu, have arrived in two batches: nine in the first batch and five in second batch. The pachyderms, with their tusks and trunks, are the cynosure of all the eyes. A prelude to Dasara, during which time, Mysuru brims with tourists and people.

Along with the elephants, mounted Police on horse back walk practice, catching the crowd in rapt attention.

The Police jeeps pilot and escort the practice walk, while a magnetic iron rod tied to the rear of the vehicle attract the metals, making the path safe for the elephants.

To ensure the safety of the people and passersby, who stop for a while to catch the glimpse of the elephants from a closer distance, Police make announcement repeatedly, restraining them from crossing the path.

The ambulance of Leopard Task Force accompany the practice session.

The pourakarmikas of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) swing into action, clearing the elephant dung from the road, as the pachyderms move ahead.

The Forest Department has also issued a set of advisory, instructing the people on do’s and don’ts during the practice session.

It’s wholly a combination of efforts, that has been making Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara, a word renowned cultural pageantry, year on year.
