Mysuru: A massive campaign is being planned against unscientific civic work atop Chamundi Hills by the Save Chamundi Hills Forum. More than 40 activists, including members of Mysuru Grahakara Parishat held a meeting here at the Institution of Engineers’ auditorium here on Wednesday.
The members unanimously opposed the construction works at the prestine Chamundi Hills. They were of the opinion that a massive campaign was the need of the hour to drive their point home. “We need to draw inspiration from strong protests that were taken out against the Chamalapura Thermal plant, a few years ago. Such a movement may force the government to reconsider construction works atop the hills,” the members observed. They also planned to take out padayatra to spread awareness on the ecological significance of the hill.
Maj Gen (Retd) SG Ombatkere recalled how people joined their hands against the thermal power plant and such a support was needed from the people to save
Chamundi Hill.
Forum founder member Parashurame Gowda reiterated the ecological importance of the hills and urged everyone to do their bit to protect the Hills. Taking reference of ‘sinking Joshimath’ in Uttarakhand, Mysuru Grahakara Parishath’s Bhamy Shenoy said that its time the government learnt its lessons.
