It’s official! PM Narendra Modi to lead International Day of Yoga in Mysuru

Mysuru: Finally the dream of yoga enthusiasts to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi on International Day of Yoga in Mysuru is coming true.
The office of Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, secretary, union ministry of Ayush, New Delhi has written to the chief secretary of Karnataka P Ravikumar on May 19 in this regard.
According to the letter, “the main event of International Day of Yoga (IDY) that will be led by the prime minister himself on June 21 this year will be in Mysuru, Karnataka. Therefore you are directed to issue necessary directions and instructions to all the concerned to make necessary arrangements for the successful organisation of the main event of IDY- 2022”.
The year also assumes significance with 75th year of Indian independence celebrated as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav coinciding with eighth International Day of Yoga. The focus will be on branding India on global stage and observe Yoga Day at 75 iconic sites across the country.
Following the initiative of Narendra Modi United Nations General Assembly took a historical decision in 2014 to declare June 21 as International Day of Yoga.
Mysuru which is popular as Yoga capital of world. Moreover it is known for Ashtanga Yoga that enjoyed royal patronage, with the contribution of renowned Yoga teacher like T Krishnamacharya.
Mysuru has produced stalwarts like BKS Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois who popularised Yoga in the modern era.
Mysuru had previously recorded the congregation of 1.5 lakh yoga enthusiasts at a single place at Mysuru Race Course ground, on International Day of Yoga.
