It’s official! MCC van driver died of black fungus, confirms Commissioner Shilpa Nag

Mysuru: Black fungus has claimed its first life in Mysuru.

Ravi (in pic above) a 38-year-old van driver at Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is that victim.

MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag confirmed the cause of death in the case of Ravi as Mucormycosis ( Black Fungus).

In Mysuru three patients are treated for black fungus infection. Ravi died at K R Hospital on Tuesday.

Another employee, Vinod a fogging auto driver succumbed to Covid-19. He was also being treated for black fungus.

Both were the contract employees of MCc.

MCC has decided to give Rs five lakh compensation to the next of kin of those employees who die of Covid-19.

It was announced in the previous budget, If permanent Pourakarmikas die, government will provide Rs 30 lakh compensation to their dependents.

Presently six pourakarmikas are being treated for Covid-19. Four are in home isolation and two admitted at Covid Care Center, MCC commissioner stated.
