Mysuru: It’s a decade for the city of Palaces that woke up to hear about the guests from the wild in the heart of the city.
It was on this day on June 8, 2011, two elephants from the woods strayed into the city. While one was separated towards Naidu Nagar from Bamboo Bazaar side, another went on a rampage in major streets and unfortunately claimed a life.
Before entering the city, the pachyderms had travelled nearly 35 kilometres.
Starting from old RMC, one of the jumbos went berserk raiding places on New Sayyaji Rao road, N S Road and Maharanis College and later entered Ovals ground.
It crossed major streets and entered JSS Women’s College campus in Saraswathipuram, before it was tranquilised near Dhobi Ghat opposite Kukkarahalli lake.
Till then, many vehicles had to bear the brunt and people had to run helter skelter to avoid encountering the jumbo.
A 55 year old person who was guarding an ATM on NS Road was fatally attacked by the elephant. As the news of elephant attack holiday was announced for schools and colleges.
