ISRO sets date with Sun; to launch first solar mission Aditya – L1 on Sept 2

Mysuru: Close on the heels of Chandrayaan 3 success, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced that the country’s first solar mission Aditya -L1 will be launched on September 2 from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

Announcing this on social media X, the ISRO wrote the Aditya -L1 is the first space-based Indian observatory to study the Sun.

The main objective of the mission is to study Solar upper atmospheric dynamics, physics of solar corona and its heating mechanism, observe the in-situ particle and plasma environment providing data for the study of particle dynamics from the Sun among others.

According to reports, initially the spacecraft will be placed in a low earth orbit. Later, it will be made more elliptical and will be launched towards the Lagrange point (L1) by using onboard propulsion.
