Is it possible to restrict lockdown to infected persons house? Minister Sudhakar promises to ponder over it

2 min read

Udupi: Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakhar said that he will discuss the possibility of imposing lockdown on the  house of the infected person instead of sealing down entire colony. The matter will be placed before the high power committee on Covid-19.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday after reviewing the prevailing Covid-19 situation, the minister said “the concept and modalities of declaring any area as containment zone have undergone changes in the last two months”.

Hitherto, we were declaring the entire area as the containment zone after detection of the positive cases. Subsequently, the area of containment zone was decreased from the whole area to a particular street. Now, MLA Raghupati Bhat has suggested to seal down particular house of the patient which will be taken up before the high power panel. The district administrations concerned could supply all essential items to the particular family, the minister said.

Guidelines for Mangalore airport

Following the arrival of regular flights to Mangalore Airport from various cities, Sudhakar said “the ICMR prescribed guidelines for the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru would be made mandatory to Mangalore Airport too.  An order to this effect would be dispatched to the district administration to implement the guidelines strictly. According to ICMR guidelines, travellers have to produce negative report for Corona, obtained just two days before their date of journey. This would check the spread of endemic”.

One more lab for Udupi

Sudhakar said “a laboratory is functioning in the district hospital to test suspected cases and another laboratory would be set up within 10 days. This would facilitate daily testing of around 1,200 people. The district which was in green zone for almost two-and-a-half months, has witnessed a spike in  cases and has surpassed Bengaluru city. This happened due to the return of migrant and hotel workers from Maharashtra. The district administration has promised to bring the district under green zone again with the co-operation of people”.

No stigma please

He regretted that a stigma was being attached to the Corona infected people without treating it like any other viral fever. It is not dreaded or dangerous when compared to other diseases. But people have to follow certain rules to keep the pandemic at bay. It was heartening to note that the doctors of Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubballi have successfully conducted a plasma transfusion on a Covid patient who was in a critical stage. The government was exploring all possibilities to treat the Corona patients till the vaccine is out. Besides, the government has set up a war room, dashboard and centrally monitored ICU to treat patients by a team of expert doctors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated Karnataka for its efforts to contain the virus. The union government had been providing all facilities to the states to deal with the situation.

Muzrai and District incharge Minister  Kota Srinivas Poojari, MLAs Raghupati Bhat, Haaladi Srinivas and Sunil Kumar were present.
