IPS officer Bhaskar Rao demits office, triggers buzz on nursing political ambitions

Bengaluru: Finally, IPS officer N Bhaskar Rao demited office on Friday, after the state government considered his application for voluntary retirement from the service (VRS).
The 1990 batch IPS officer of Karnataka cadre, Bhakar Rao was famous as People’s Cop. He was serving as ADGP of Railways, when he relinquished his office. Prior to that he had served as Commissioner of Bengaluru and Mysuru city police commissionerates, KSRP and several other wings in the department.
Rao had also worked on the initiative where railway police official educated the railway staffers on the safety measures by acting against nuisance mongers and thefts.
He devised “Happy to help” visiting cards of the police officials that were given to the passengers. The passengers could reach out easily to the police in case of emergencies.
Bhaskar Rao led cycling event ‘Karnataka Darshan’, covering 1,756 kilometres to spread the message of “Clean India Mission” and especially focused on the use of toilets to end open defecation, plastic waste and work towards the ecological conservation.
He was invited as speaker in TEDx conference on the topic- Importance of Community Relationships.
With his stint with khaki over, buzz is that Rao may join a political party and contest the next Assembly elections due in 2023. But Rao has not disclosed anything in open about his future plans till today.
