Install Devaraja Urs’ statue in Mysuru: Activists petition DC

Mysuru: Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagruta Vedike has urged Chief  Minister B S Yediyurappa to take measures to install the the statue of former chief minister late D Devaraja Urs in the city.

Vedike rural unit president Zakeer Hussen has submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar and has explained that “Urs during his lifetime strove for the welfare of downtrodden who had least representation in any fields in the society. The city already has statues of great personalities like social reformer Basavanna, Mahatma Gandhiji, Dr B R Ambedkar, Dr Babu Jagjivan Ram and and several others, but Urs. The statue still remains a mirage and should be installed in the heart of the city”.

Mysuru District Congress Committee general secretary A R Kantharaju, secretary Dairy Venkatesh, Congress leader Vinod Raj were present at the time of submitting the memorandum.
