Injured tiger ‘Mooga’ captured, shifted to Bannerghatta Biological Park

Mysuru: A male tiger, locally known as “Mooga,” had created a stir on Kutta-Ponnampet road in Kodagu, sitting in the middle of the road, was rescued and shifted to Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP), Bengaluru.

The approximately 11-year-old tiger, had suffered injuries in a territorial fight with another male tiger.

The tiger, well-known in Nagarahole Safari Zone, was spotted on the night of September 16 on the Kutta-Ponnampet main road, raising concerns among the public. Following this, forest officials initiated a tiger capture operation under the direction of Seema P A, Director of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve.

Veterinary officers Dr Ramesh H and Dr Wasim Mirza, along with sharpshooter Ranjan K P, led the rescue operation. 

Assistant Conservator of Forests, Nagarahole Wildlife Sub-Division, Ananya Kumar J, RFO Manjunath H M and officers Gurumurthy, Nagaraju Srikhande and Chetan Kumar Kolur, assisted in the rescue operation.

After the treatment, “Mooga” was safely translocated to Bannerghatta Biological Park for further care.
