2 min read

Mysuru: “The criticism towards your idea is important to survive,” said Ramesh Santhanam, Strategic Advisor and Mentor, Telecom Center of Excellence (TCOE), former Chief Innovation Officer, IIT Madras Research.

Addressing students and parents during the induction programme of first year BE students of Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) of the year 2024-25 at Indoor sports hall of the college on Sunday, he said “When we were studying there was no incubation ecosystem, today you have the opportunity to be your own employer. All you need to do is to have an idea, and to incubate this idea you can all become brilliant engineers. After that, with the help from professors, engineers, principal and mentor you can convert this idea into reality so you can become your own employer and give employment to others  rather than thinking “am I going to be employable?”

“In India the valuation of the incubation ecosystem is one trillion dollars. One third of the national economy rests on new ideas that you are going to create during your college times. This is another career path for students, if you have innovation you will succeed” added Ramesh.

He also briefed about the successful innovators who went on to become successful in their business and also prominent business establishments who failed to succeed due to failure in adapting to changes.

At the same time, he also mentioned that in days to come there will also be more job opportunities in the wireless and cyber security sector and hence called upon the student to think out of box to come out with innovative ideas.

He also mentioned that Telecom Centre of Excellence will be set up at Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Bengaluru which will also help in providing the job opportunities.

More than 800 new first year students along with their parents attended the induction programme.

Few alumnis of the college also shared their experience on campus.

Free buses for students: To cater students especially who come from different places across the district, the management is providing free bus facility to these students.
