India has made strides since vedic period till date: Governor Gehlot

Mysuru: Governor of Karnataka Thaawar Chand Gehlot said India has made significant contributions ever since vedic period till date, besides acquiring distinct knowledge in all the fields, including space science, earth science, mathematics and other fields.
Speaking at 104th convocation of University of Mysore Governor said ” Our academic and cultural tradition is very ancient, centred around the philosophy of ‘Vasudeva Kutumbakam’ and ‘Sarve Bhavathu Sukhino, Sarve Santhu Niramaya’. Our culture always inspires world brotherhood, world peace, equality and harmony. By blending modern knowledge with values, it is essential to develop such a education system.”

Apart from Veda and Vedanga, Takshashila and Nalanda Universities were popular for science, technology, maths, space science, political science, economics among other subjects. The students from across the world are attracted towards these varieties. Prominent scholars like Charaka, Chanakya, Aryabhata and Sushruta studied here and were considered Vishwaguru for their contributions to various fields, said Governor.
The best of education helps not just in protecting religion and culture, but also in maintaining national integrity and totality, equality and harmony in the society and giving a new direction to the world, but also does good to the whole mankind, observed Governor.

Post independence, the country has achieved overwhelming progress in all the fields and the economy of the country is robust. Today our economy is the fifth biggest country in the terns of economy and by further strengthening the country, it has heen decided to strengthen further to achieve the target of becoming a bigger economy country.
The environmental imbalance has emerged as a serious issue and it is our responsibility to conserve the environment. We have to work more towards the protection of water, air and forest and everybody should join hands to achieve the purpose.
Mysuru city is popular for its ancient monuments and unique architecture and religious and cultural traditions. It is a hub of education in South India. The University of Mysore was established on July 27, 1916, a first in Karnataka and sixth in the entire country. Ever since its inception, the varsity is working towards achieving the motto ‘Nahi Jnanena Sadrusham’ meaning nothing is equal to knowledge and shall always speak the truth. This University has produced several scientists, philosophists and leaders in the country, who have had a role in shaping knowledge and Science in the country, said Governor.
Former Governor of Maharashtra S M Krishna, also the former CM of Karnataka, former Minister M R Seetharam and Prof Dr Bhashyam Swamiji were conferred Honorary Doctorates.
Former cricketer Javagal Srinath who had been selected for the conferment of honorary doctorate during the previous and 103rd Convocation was also presented the honour.
Higher Education Minister Dr M C Sudhakar, former Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Dr C N Manjunath, Vice-chancellor of University of Mysore Prof N K Lokanath and other dignitaries were present.
