In winter, Mysuru Bird Festival takes wings

Mysuru: The second edition of Mysuru Bird Festival took off to an overwhelming start in the city on December 28.

As a part of Winter Festival ( Maagi Festival), the district administration in association with Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens and Tourism Department has organised the festival.

The bird enthusiasts from Mysuru and Bengaluru are attending the festival, where they will be taken to different bird habitats in and around Mysuru. Technical sessions on scientific methods to be followed to watch the winged friends are also a part of the fest.

Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar said “Birding is to gain knowledge and be a part of conservation of nature and not for any likes on social media”.

Stressing on the need of ethical birding without disturbing avifauna, deputy commissioner who himself is an avid birder said “migratory season, especially up to March is the ideal season for watching birds”.

Zoo Authority of Karnataka Member Secretary B P Ravi said “to promote nature and wildlife zoo is organising various events like Karanji lake fest and now bird fest. BBP in Bengaluru is the nodal agency for urban forestry in Bengaluru region. Similar programmes are planned at Hampi Zoo”.

Zoo executive director Ajit Kulkarni and wildlife photographers duo Krupakar Senani were present.
