In a bid to usurp land, accused killed photographer from Mysuru

Mangaluru: A photographer from Mysuru, who was found murdered in Puttur recently was done to death owing to a property row.

The body was exhumed on last Wednesday, for post-mortem after he was found to be killed and the body buried by the perpetrators in a forest land.

He had been smashed in the head with a hammer and stabbed in his neck and back with a knife, according to the investigation.

Jagadish Rai (58) from Subramanya Nagar in Mysuru, was reported to be missing on November 18.

Following this, a special team of police had arrested five accused including  a woman.

Balakrishna Rai (59), Prashanth (28), Jeevan Prasad (39) and Jayalakshmi (58) from Padavannur in Puttur and Jayaraj Shetty (47) of Badagannur in Puttur are those arrested persons.

In a complaint filed at Puttur Rural police station, Shashidhar the brother of the deceased Jagadish had
stated that the latter had bought two acres of agricultural land in Kunjoor Panja of Aryapu village in Dakshina Kannada. Balakrishna Rai, one of the accused and a relative was taking care of the land.
On November 18, Jagadish had come from Mysuru to visit the land with Balakrishna Rai giving him a company. After that Jagadish went missing.
Shashidhar was told that his brother had returned to Mysuru, but he had not returned home. He later lodged a missing complaint.

The SP stated that the accused hatched a plot on November 18 and took Jagadish Rai around in a car on Noojibailu Pernaje road. After hitting him to death with a hammer and stabbing him with a knife, the accused buried the body in forest at Muguli in Paduvannur village.

Balakrishna Rai had also registered an agreement related to Jagadish’s land in his name, in a clandestine manner. To conceal the agreement the accused hatched a plot in nexus.

Police have recovered weapons used in crime, car and gold chain of the victim.
