I am 64! Vijayashankar cites pressure of age to rebuild his political career

2 min read

Mysuru: Following the news reports over the possibilities of former MP C H Vijayashankar returning to BJP, a delegation of Congress leaders have called on the former at his house in Vijayanagar in the city on October 27.

The delegation led by former Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayan have made a bid to convince Vijayashankar to remain in the party and hold talks with Opposition leader Siddaramaiah.

The delegation also included- Mysuru District City Congress Committee president R Murthy, rural president Dr B J Vijaykumar and former senate member C S Raghu.

Vijayashankar who is learnt to be in haze has reportedly expressed his concern about his future in politics as he is already 64.

More than finding a way to Lok Sabha again, he is keen on State politics and renew his political career from any assembly constituency either in Hunsur or Periyapatna.

With the party already making mind to field former MLA H P Manjunath for the ensuing  by- poll from Hunsur and another former MLA K Venkatesh from Periyapatna sure to emerge as a strong contender for ticket in next general elections too, Vijayashankar has made it clear that he cannot find any chances among them in Congress.

It is the reason why he is planning to return to BJP which has no representation and also formidable candidates in both the constituencies.

Vijayashankar a Kuruba leader had joined Congress in 2017 at the insistence of then chief minister Siddaramaiah.

Vijayashankar who was a BJP MP from erstwhile Mysore constituency had represented the seat twice from 1998 to 1999 and 2004 to 2009. However he lost to A H Vishwanath in the subsequent elections from Mysuru- Kodagu seat in 2009.

In the 2014 elections, the party brought in Prathap Simha and forcibly pitted Vijayashankar in Hassan seat against H D Deve Gowda.
