Mysuru: Sri Niranjan Mutt Samrakshana Samiti and Maharani’s NTM School Federation took out a joint protest rally in the major thoroughfares of the city on Wednesday.
In the rally from NTMS campus to Deputy Commissioner’s office, about nearly 500 protesters representing various organisations took part.
The protesters warned Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama about occupying the mutt in the name of Viveka Memorial. Instead, Ashrama should write a letter to the state government and desist from occupying both Niranjan Mutt and NTM School.
Activist P Mallesh said “We won’t give up the movement as we have the ability to take the agitation to statewide. Revolutionary Basavanna taught about workmanship and showed a righteous path, while in the name of Swami Vivekananda, the Ashram is just grabbing the land,” Mallesh said.
Farmer leader Hosakote Basavaraju said “we are warning the state government also not to allot the land to Ramakrishna Ashrama. If the land is given to Ashrama, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will no longer remain as CM,” he warned again.
The protest rally passed through NTM School, New Sayyaji Rao Road, D Devaraj Urs Road, JLB Road and Vinoba Road before culminating at DC office.
A memorandum addressed to chief minister was submitted at Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Former mayor R Purushottham, Sa Ra Sudarshan, M G Sadanandaiah, Hinkal Basavaraj and several other Veerashaiva- Lingayat leaders took part in the protest.
