How to ‘stay home, stay healthy’? Yoga teacher Kanchana Ganga gives a pep talk

3 min read

Mysuru: Under home quarantine irrespective of being infected by Coronavirus or not, at least for a period of 21 days complying with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for lockdown, many people are finding their own ways of killing time.

While some professionals have continued with their routine with the help of technology, some are revisiting their old hobbies true to the call of ‘Stay home, stay healthy’.

Likewise, Kanchanaganga a Yogasana teacher since 2016 has taken the aid of technology, besides making time for reviving her days as amateur artist, culinary and teach a bit about social media to her grandmother.

I  started live streaming my yoga session on facebook (Kanchana Ganga) everyday at 5.15pm to all my students and my millennial friends (stuck to screens loosing fitness can now be stuck to screen and gain fitness ) who can join me from their home and do yoga together”, says Ganga sharing the information with Mysoorunews.com

Covid- 19 has definitely affected my professional and personal life. I have suspended my group classes since the second week of March and asked students to practice at home. I continued my personal therapeutic yogaasanas teaching classes which also I had to stop”, recalls Ganga.

Quarantine can get very challenging emotionally. The isolation can lead to depression, stress and frustrations which can lead to damage in family relationships, she feels.

Coming to my Quarantine lifestyle since we all are on, we should develop essential habits to have a mindful living, instead of becoming loyal customers to online cinematic/ games/ sports platforms”, says Ganga.

As said “an ideal mind is devil’s open workshop. So let’s keep mind and body busy by cultivating healthy habits as the same 21 days of practice becomes a habit”.

So I decided do something new everyday which I was not able to do due to the constraints of time I had due to my work life. As I sit here watching the sunset of sixth day in quarantine sure I pen down my efforts to make a meaningful living”.

Quarantine day 1:
Sleeping till noon.
Me as a yoga teacher always have to get up early for classes and never could oversleep. So day one of Quarantine for me was all about getting up without alarm.

Quarantine day 2:
Beautifying yourself
I am a total addict of manicure (nail polish nail arts and growing long nails) which again becomes hard to maintain on day to day basis and it takes a long time to have a beautiful nail art on my nails. So today I painted them with all the time in the world.

Quarantine Day 3:
Taking care of my plants
Gardening can be very therapeutic as it takes out a lot of stress and also gives you a good physical activity. Being around these plants make me feel fresh and so alive while forget all about Quarantine.

Quarantine day 4:
Painting.
Always loved to sketch, paint, put colours on the Canvas. So today I decided to paint a Natya Ganapathy in Mysore traditional art style .

Quarantine day 5:
Cooking a new dish.
Cooking is what our mother’s do everyday. So I wanted her to have a break. I also decided to cook and something that I have not cooked before. I made some really delicious samosas. We all will be craving for junk which we usually eat outside.

Quarantine day 6:
Spending time with my grandmother

I’m always loved and got inspired by my grandmother and I remember she has been teaching me shlokas and hence today I decided to teach her a bit about social media.

Hoping to have a 21 meaningful days by touching a lot of lives with yoga and me learning new learnings and getting the good news of the cure to Covid 19.
