Hotel Owner’s Association urges excise commissioner for permission to empty liquor stock

Mysuru: Hotel Owner’s Association has written to State Excise Commissioner to give special permission to open bar and restaurants and other excise licence holders to sell the available stock for one or two days.

C Narayan Gowda

Association president C Narayan Gowda has explained that ‘most of the licence holders have stocked adequate quantity of liquor worth several crores of rupees from Karnataka State Bewerages Corporation Limited (KSBCL). If CL2, CL7 and CL9 licence holders are allowed to empty the stock of IML and beer at MRP rates, it will help them ride over the financial crunch they are facing to a larger extent. Most of them have invested heavily after taking loan from various sources and have to meet the monthly maintenance expenditure including the salary of the workers, electricity bill, rent and others that alone run up to several lakhs per month”.

Moreover, the liquor outlets are not allowed to sell liquor after the date of expiry and will be forced to dispose them afterwards. If served to customers unknowingly it may take a toll on their health. Hence, as an alternate measure they should be permitted to empty the stock.

Following the lockdown, all the liquor vends have suspended business since March 23 complying with the restrictions. With the lockdown extended till May 3, it will be further difficult for the licencees, Gowda has requested further.
