Highly decomposed carcass of tiger found in Bandipur

Mysuru: A highly decomposed carcass of a tiger was found in Bandipur forest on December 10. The carcass was found in an elephant proof trench ( EPT) in N Begur range in the forest.

According to forest veterinarian Dŕ Nagaraj ” The tiger is aged about seven years. It might have died about five to six days ago in a fight with another animal, as it is the season of mating. Major wounds were noticed, as it has suffered a fracture in its hind leg, skull and claws are broken”.

Apart from the body getting decomposed, there are also chances of other animals partly eating the flesh, he said.

Field Director of Bandipur T Balachandra and wildlife warden Kruthika Alanahalli visited the spot.

In another case, a tiger has devoured a cow at Nittur- Karmad village in Virajpet taluk, Kodagu. The cow was owned by Kottangada Madhu Manjunath.
