Bengaluru: The High Court of Karnataka has turned down an appeal by Sandalwood actor ‘Golden Star’ Ganesh who had approached the court seeking to vacate the stay order served on him by the forest department and Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) Monitoring Committee of Bandipur Tiger Reserve. The court has directed the actor to approach the ESZ, instead.
The ESZ had served notice to the actor on August 14 for violating the ESZ norms in construction. Actor Ganesh is building a house at 1.24 acre of land in Jakkahalli village (Survey no 105) that abuts Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
It is said that, Ganesh had sought to build a make-shift house on the said land. But environmentalists had raised concern after it was found that earthmovers were utilised in construction activities. Alarmed by these developments, the forest department had asked the actor to stop construction work at the site and to submit all documents in a week.
Appearing for the actor, advocate C K Nandakumar approached the High Court seeking to vacate the stay order. But the court has now asked the actor to approach the forest department and ESZ monitoring committee.
