Heavy rain in Kodagu; Bhagamandala resembles an island now

Kodagu: Kodagu district has been witnessing heavy rainfall forcing the district administration to declare holiday for schools and colleges on Monday.

Although delayed, the monsoon is catching up with Karnataka in July month with several parts of the State receiving heavy rainfall. Apart from Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttar Kannada, Belagavi, Chikkamagaluru districts are receiving heavy downpour. Many rivers including Krisha, Tunga, Sharavathi and Varada rivers are flowing almost full.

In July Monsoon saw a sharp rise, Coastal Karnataka, North Karnataka and Malenadu region witnessed heavy rainfall and the rivers including Krishna, Tunga, Sharavathi and Varada rivers are flowing almost full.

Harangi has received 62.40 mm of rain as on July 24 while last year, it had received 5.20 mm rain. Today’s water level at Harangi is registered at 2853.77 ft as against the maximum level 2859 ft. While, inflow is registered at 17972 cusecs, last year it was 2766 cusecs and outflow today is recorded at 23937 cusecs while last year it was 2800 cusecs.

In Kodagu, River Cauvery has touched the maximum level and owing to heavy downpour, Bhagamandala resembles an island, now. Many roads in various localities have lost access.

Meanwhile, Cesc officials are working tirelessly to restore power supply in the district as reports of uprooting of electric poles are pouring in from a few areas.
