HC cancels Mysuru Mayor’s election to MCC; orders reelection to Ward 36

Mysuru: Mayor Rukmini Madegowda has lost her chair within a few months of her election as first citizen of the city.

High Court has ordered cancellation of her election to Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) held in 2018.

Rukmini Madegowda told Mysoorunews.com ” High Court has cancelled both the applicants ( she and her rival Rajani Annaiah) membership and ordered reelection to Ward 36.”

High Court had ordered stay earlier. We will go to Supreme court in appeal against the High Court’s recent order, Rukmini added.

Her rival candidate from Congress Rajani Annaiah a former Corporator had moved court pointing loopholes in the election affidavit of Rukmini especially related to income sources.

Rajani Annaiah told Mysoorunews.com ” We were fighting this case since three years and Mysuru court had ordered in my favour. While they (Rukmini) went to High Court and brought a stay to contest Mayor’s election. Now, the court has ordered for re- election.”

Rukmini was elected on JDS ticket from Ward 36 of Yaraganahalli.
