Green cess the new norm for devotees visiting BR Hill

Mysuru: Forest Department has started imposing green cess on those visiting Biligiriranganatha Swamy Hill in Yalandur taluk, Chamarajanagar district from January 1.

The cess of Rs 10 is levied on two-wheelers and Rs 20 on cars, while ambulances and KSRTC buses and those residing in the vicinity of BR Hill are exempted from paying the cess. The cess is being collected at the check posts at Gumballi in Yalandur and Hondarabalu in Chamarajanagar taluk. While the cess is already being collected at Punajanur check post since May 2023.

According to BRT Director Deep J Contractor, the cess is being collected on a pilot basis and will be utilised towards providing facilities for the tribals.
