Mysuru: The sacred and ecologically sensitive Chamundi Hills would be developed as an Eco-friendly zone without causing any harm to the environment here, said District in-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa.
Participating in an interaction with the journalists here on Saturday, Minister Mahadevappa listed out various projects with regard to Mysuru district.
He said that measures will be taken not to affect the ecologically sensitive Chamundi Hills while developing the hills. He was reacting to questions whether the Central government project on the Hills would reduce the sacred hills to become a concrete jungle? Clarifying on the same, the minister was of the opinion that measures would be taken to ensure it is not crowded with neither buildings nor people.
He further said that there is a proposal before the government to form Mysuru Dasara Authority and this will be discussed with the chief minister. He recalled that during his stint as district in-charge minister, earlier, he successfully conducted Dasara celebrations and had worked for the overall development of the district.
On reviving heritage properties in Mysuru, the minister informed that he has directed the deputy commissioner to list out the heritage properties in the city for the purpose. On a proposal to ensure zero traffic zone around the two kilometers radius of the Mysuru Palace, he said the government will look into it and may have a parking facility at Town Hall.
He assured that the government will work on a proposal – submitted by cricketer Anil Kumble – to build an international level cricket stadium in Mysuru. Besides, a film city that the Congress government had proposed will be taken up at 125 acres near Kadakola.
Reminiscing his journey in politics, the minister – who won elections from T Narasipura constituency – recalled that it was veteran leader Rachiah who noticed the ‘spark’ in him and handed over a ticket to contest in 1985. So far he has contested nine elections out of which he won six times and been a minister four times. He claimed that he never lobbied for the minister’s post. He also claimed that he brought in revolutionary changes when he served as minister in the health and public works department during previous Congress governments.
