Govt should have announced 3-day mourning for Katti: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Following the death of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Umesh Katti, Opposition Leader in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said that “the government should have declared three-day mourning”.

Reacting to media queries over the state government’s decision to declare one-day mourning mostly to facilitate Janotsava convention planned on Thursday, Siddaramaiah who feigned ignorance over the reason behind declaring only one day mourning, however asserted that “Katti being a sitting cabinet minister (at the time of death), the government should have declared three-day mourning”.

Recalling his Association with Katti, Siddaramaiah said ” Katti was a PWD minister when I was a deputy chief minister in the cabinet of Chief Minister J H Patel, also holding finance portfolio. He was a jovial man, known for his straight forward talk”.

Saying that 62 wasn’t an age to die for Katti, Siddaramaiah said he had cardiac related ailments, but neglected it.

Earlier Siddaramaiah paid his last respects to the mortal remains of Katti at HAL Airport.
