Mysuru: Government High School at Udbur in the taluk has been lit up with solar energy.
Under Sugamya Shiksha initiative of Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM), solar lights worth Rs two lakh have been installed at the school.
The new facility was handed over to the teachers and School Development and Management Committee (SDMC) in the presence of MLA and former higher education minister G T Devegowda
Devegowda expressed that “Graam has transformed 13 schools across the taluk as model schools with the support of various institutions, officials and the community. The objectives will be fulfiled, if the teachers, officers and the community take forward the effort to the greater heights”.
He also appreciated GRAAM for bringing educational reforms in the government schools and felicitated GRAAM’s Executive Director Dr Basavaraju R Shreshta on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Basavaraju R Shreshta said “We have spent more than Rs one crore alone on Udbur school to provide computer lab, painting walls, to conduct spoken English classes, impart sports coaching, training on life skills and for the distribution of scholarships. Efforts of the teachers, support from the people’s representatives and involvement of the
community made this school a model school in the state. Villagers should join hands to take it ahead further’’
Inter district skating competition winners of Udbur Government primary school were also felicitated on the occasion.
GRAAM is a social research and advocacy organisation with the mission of promoting community participation, advocacy and development in public policy making by incorporating participation and participation in all its activities.
It is involved in various dimensions of health, education and community development research.
Study, advocacy, programme evaluation and programme monitoring are the key activities and serve as a guiding agency for many government projects and planning and monitoring systems in various states of the country.
Zilla Panchayat member Premakumari Mahadevaswamy, Taluk Panchayat member Dasanayaka, BEO Mysuru Taluk (Rural) Krishna, SDMC president Narayanaswamy, GP members, villagers, teachers and GRAAM faculty were present.
