Goods vehicles carrying passengers to face action

Bengaluru: To crack down on the goods vehicles carrying passengers, Chief Secretary to the government T M Vijayabhaskar has directed the regional transport officers to confiscate such vehicles and cancel the permit. Criminal case should be booked against owners of such vehicles.

In a video conference with the deputy commissioners, the chief secretary directed the officers to deal with an iron hand, in the wake of a public interest litigation filed at the high court. The member secretary of state legal services authority has filed a PIL at the apex court of the state, seeking action on the goods vehicles and vehicles meant to carry construction materials, carrying school children, women and elderly people putting their lives into risk.

Following this, the respective regional transport officers should prepare an action plan within May 20 and submit to the commissioner of transport department and also the secretaries of district legal services authority.

The transport and education department authorities have been also directed to look into the requirements of those places where the school children lack transportation facilities. The KSRTC in association with labour department should take initiative to distribute passes to the daily wage labourers on the lines of BMTC.

The deputy commissioners of respective districts who are also the chairmen of district level transport authorities should conduct meetings once in a fortnight and submit report to both transp0rt commissioner and district legal services authority.

Similarly BBMP authorities should check transportation of pourakarmikas in vehicles used to transport garbage.
