Golden mask handed over to Trineshwara Swamy temple authorities

Mysuru: As part of ‘Maha Shivarathri’ that falls on February 18 (Saturday), the district administration handed over the golden mask to Trineshwara Swamy temple in Mysuru Palace premises on Friday. The 11 kg golden mask will adorn the Shivalinga during the festival, that draws devotees in large numbers.

The district treasury officials handed over the mask to temple authorities, as is the tradition.

This time, the temple authorities have decided to keep the golden mask adorning Shivalinga for two days – Saturday and Sunday also for the benefit of devotees during the weekend followed by general holiday.

For, usually, the mask is removed and handed over to the treasury officials, after Shivarathri festival.

The mask (Chinnada Kolaga) was donated to the temple by last Maharaja of Mysore Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar on the occasion of the birth of his son Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar in 1953.

Since then the Shivalinga is covered by Golden Mask during Shivarathri festival.
