Madikeri: The statue of General K S Thimayya that was damaged after a KSRTC bus knocked it down in Madikeri recently, will be reinstalled soon.
A meeting in this regard was held here recently where Madikeri MLA Dr Manthar Gowda, former minister M C Nanaiah had others were present at the meeting.
A KSRTC bus had knocked the statue down while trying to avoid hitting a Mangaluru-bound vehicle at Thimayya Circle in Madikeri, recently.
At the meeting it was decided to rebuild the road – where the statue is installed in a circle – in a scientific way. Also, the officials concerned were asked to remove unnecessary dividers, road humps laid unscientifically and also install digital direction board. It has been decided to reinstall the statue by October in a grand ceremony.
The statue of General K S Thimayya was unveiled by Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw in 1973. In fact, it was former minister M C Nanaiah’s decision to have the statue as a tribue to General Thimayya. Nanaiah was then serving as the president of Madikeri Municipal Council. The statue was built in Ranchi with funds raised from various individuals and organisations in Kodagu.
