1 min read

Mysuru: Opposition party leader Siddaramaiah on Wednesday visited the spot on Lalithadripura road, where a girl student was sexually assaulted on August 24.

Siddaramaiah along with former minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, former MLA MK Somashekar and KPCC Women’s wing chairperson Pushpa Amarnath visited the gang rape spot and collected details from the police.

Siddaramaiah sought to know from the local police about the topography of the area, visit of couples in love and friends, police patrolling and other system in place. Most importantly, Siddaramaiah wanted to know whether there was Garuda police patrolling on the day the incident occurred.

When the police personnel acknowledged Siddaramaiah questioned then how did the incident happen?

When a police officer tried to explain that “leopards are often spotted on the road,” Siddaramaiah shot back ” If that was the reason, how could they?”.

Siddaramaiah also wanted to know whether it was a forest area, as a police officer claimed that “A board has been installed stating that the land has been identified for MUDA’s Group Housing project.”

The police also informed that they have written to MUDA seeking clarity about the ownership of the land, with the reply awaited still.

Later Siddaramaiah visited Police Commissioner Chandragupta and collected information related to progress of the investigation into the case.

Congress Fact finding committee led by V S Ugrappa also visited the spot recently and  interacted with police authorities.
