Mysuru: DG and IGP Praveen Sood on Saturday announced that the Mysuru police have finally succeeded in cracking the gang rape case that had occurred on August 24 in the city.

Five accused are arrested in the case including a juvenile, who is aged 17 (subject to confirmation) and all are from Tirpur in Tamil Nadu.

Total there are six accused in the case and one among them is absconding, said Sood on the basis of preliminary information.

In the case of juvenile too, with respect to serious cases, beyond age 16 also, they will be tried in regular court, said Sood quoting the change in definition of juvenile accused after Nirbhaya case.

They were frequently coming to the city on odd jobs. There is a driver, electrician and carpenter among them. They were usually boozing in such sterile areas as and when they came to the city.

In such blind cases, we had to rely on technical and scientific clues, said Sood.

We have to be sensitive towards the trauma suffering of the victim. Without any information from the victim, we had to rely on the incomplete information given by her friend, but due to his health condition,” said Sood.

The police led by ADGP (Law and order) Pratap Reddy cracked the case.

As per the instructions of Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, Rs five lakh reward is announced to the police team involved in probing the case, Sood added.

Answering to media queries, Sood refused to divulge further information in the case.

However, he exuded confidence that the victim will also cooperate with the police during the further course of investigation. The charge sheet is also hoped to be filed at the earliest.

We also appeal to the High Court to expedite trial in this case and if needed we will appoint a special prosecutor in the case.

Sood confirmed that, it was an attempt to robbery first as the accused had demanded Rs three lakh in the case.
