Foundation stone laid for ‘Auto Nagar’

Mysuru: An exclusive area for all the auto servicing needs will finally see the light of the day with a foundation stone being laid on Sunday here on the outskirts of Mysuru. Titled “Auto Nagar” – at Mandakalli Survey no 64 and 65 – the area is conceptualized to centralize vehicle servicing, mechanical shops, garages and shops dealing in automobile parts and sales to decongest the City. Not just that, the concept also hopes to bring down pollution levels in the Heritage City.
Although the concept was developed in 2010, a brainchild of MLA SA Ramadas, it took so long to take shape. Then, Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) too had agreed to provide land but later landowners and MUDA were locked in a legal hurdle. The issue went to the High Court, where it upheld the arguments of MUDA. With the foundation stone laid on Sunday, it would be a matter of time before automobile servicing shops, mechanics and service stations shift here from the City.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramadas said this is a move to make Mysuru pollution-free and also to provide centralized services for automobile needs. Here all necessary establishments like service stations, tinkering, painting, canteen, spare parts shops and vehicle towing vehicle clinics will come up or shift from the City. Mysuru has around 6.5 lakh plus registered vehicles.
Mysuru City Vehicle Mechanics Association office-bearers were present. They urged the government to set up more such facilities in other parts of the City.
Along with MLA Ramadas GT Deve Gowda and MUDA Chairman Yashaswi Somashekar were present at the foundation laying ceremony.
