Nanjangud: Nanjungud MLA B Harshavardhan on Wednesday gave a push to reconstruction works of Adishakti Sri Mahadevamma temple, Huchgani by donating Rs five lakh from his salary.

The temple was brought down recently by the government while implementing the Supreme Court order. Now villagers, through a trust, have come forward to rebuild the temple on a piece of land donated by a villager.

Harshavardhan, while participating in the ground-breaking ceremony, declared, “I, before going for the next Assembly elections in 2023, will ensure the completion of the temple works and inaugurate the shrine. The temple will be ready before 2023. I will offer my prayers to the deity before commencing the campaign.”

The MLA said he is donating Rs five lakh now. But he would ensure that from other known sources too, funds would be raised for the temple works.

He reiterated that he did his best to retain the original structure of the temple. He had also sought two days time from the authorities concerned to take measures to save the temple. The tahsildar was under pressure from Deputy Commissioner to take the necessary action. Finally, the rules prevailed and the officials took the action.

He also pointed out that the plans to remove the temple structure began two or three years ago.

“The Supreme Court’s order is being implemented in the entire country. Even in Udupi, temples have been pulled down. Anyway, now there are new rules in place to handle the places of worship in Karnataka. There is no point in brooding over the past. Let us all ensure the temple is back. Let us all be blessed by Devi. Let peace prevail here. Some people tried to politicise the issue, but they did not succeed as people want to live in harmony,” Harshavardhan said.
