Forum wants govt to reconsider PRASAD scheme in Chamundi Hills

Mysuru: The Central government’s most talked about PRASAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) Scheme needs to be reconsidered, at least in the case of Chamundi Hills, observed members of Save Chamundi Hills.

Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, the members who have actively been voicing against the ongoing construction work under the project, said that Chamundi Hills is a sensitive zone and hence, taking up any construction work including beautification work need to be considered.

The Save Chamundi Hills Forum founding member Parashuram Gowda said that Chamundi Hills is not only significant as a religious and natural site, but it is also an ecologically sensitive zone. The ongoing construction work will impact the ecosystem and the government needs to have a second thought about it.

However, the forum suggested developing a greenery, sewage treatment plant which was essential and effective in waste management. They were also of the opinion that lakes around the hills need to be restored for sustainability and encroachments around the hill need to be checked, regularly.

Heritage experts committee member NS Rangaraju, Environmentalist UN Ravikumar and Srishaila Ramannavar and Prabha Nandish were present.
