Mandya: Former Mandya MP and leader of Cauvery movement G Madegowda passed away on Saturday. He was 92.
A resident of Bandigowda layout in Mandya, he was a native of Gurudevarahalli in Maddur taluk.
Madegowda who was ailing from sometime was admitted at Madegowda Multi specialty Hospital in KM Doddi in Mandya district.
He was suffering from lung infection and age related illness since over 15 days and was hospitalised at Bengaluru, before he was shifted to the Hospital here.
Madegowda was a popular leader in old Mysuru region. He was in the forefrontof the fight over Cauvery river water.
In 1980 Madegowda served as a Forest Minister in the cabinet of Chief Minister R Gundu Rao. He represented Kirugavalu constituency as a MLA.
In 1989 and 1991 elections, Madegowda was elected to Lok Sabha from Mandya.
He is reason behind reshaping of KM Doddi as Bharati Nagar.
He is survived by his wife, four sons including Dr Prakash and former MLC Madhu Madegowda and a daughter.
