Former minister, writer Prof Mumtaz Ali khan dies at 94

Bengaluru: Former minister Prof Mumtaz Ali Khan passed away on Monday. He was 94.

Khan who was ailing from age related illness breathed his last at his Ganga Nagar residence.

Khan who had the privilege of being a lone Muslim minister in the cabinet of Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa in 2008, held the portfolios of Wakf, Hajj and Minorities Welfare.

However, he quit the saffron party and joined Congress later in 2013.

Khan who was a former professor of sociology had retired from Bangalore University in early 80’s.

Khan was also a writer and educationist who was running a free school for the underprivileged at R T Nagar. It is an unaided school purely run on the pension and other sources of revenue handled by Khan.

The last rites will be conducted at Khuddu Saheb graveyard at 1.30 pm.

Khan is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
