Former Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds killed in car accident

1 min read

Melbourne: Former cricketer Andrew Symonds was killed in a car crash outside Townsville in Queensland state on Saturday night, Cricket Australia said Sunday.

It is yet another tragic blow for the sport after the recent deaths of equally great cricketers Shane Warne and Rod Marsh.

The 46-year-old Symonds played 26 tests and 198 one-day internationals for Australia from 1998 to 2009. He was also a part of the team that won World Cup in 2003 and 2007.

He later played IPL and was also a successful commentator.

According to police, emergency services attempted to revive the driver and sole occupant, but he (Symonds) died from his injuries after the car veered off the road and overturned.
