Mysuru: A Dalit organisation that had formed a fact finding committee to voluntarily probe into the incident of firing on a tribal in Periyapatna taluk by forest personnel  has released a report.

According to the report the allegations made by the forest personnel on the tribal Basava a resident of Ranigate hamlet are baseless.

Karnataka Dalita Chaluvali Nava Nirmana Vedike member Harihara Ananda Swamy who released a report on Friday alleged that “Forest personnel were misbehaving with tribal women. Fed up of this, the tribal youths had warned them. In a fit of rage, forest personnel shot at Basava and cooked up a Sandalwood theft story by framing him. Strangely, Sandalwood trees are not grown in the radius of 15 km from the place where the incident took place.”

Ananda Swamy claimed that the copies of the report have been sent to chief minister and other higher officials. However no action has been taken yet.”

Dr S Srikanth of DEED exhorted for a judicial probe into the case, as the forest personnel are misbehaving with tribal women. To avoid the blame, they have levelled false allegations against Basava.

Moreover, the counter complaint lodged by Basava’s wife is not registered yet. A counter complaint must be lodged against forest personnel and deputy commissioner should visit the spot and report the facts to the government. The family of Basavana should be given a compensation of Rs 25 lakh, he demanded.

Tribal leader Krishna who spoke on similar lines alleged that ” there are several instances of atrocities committed on tribal women. The tribals are being harassed in the name of law.”
