Mysuru: Nada Habba Mysuru Dasara which has been announced to be a simple celebration this year, has many other changes.
Elephants that form the cynosure of the annual pajaentry will be marching out of the woods to forest only along with their mahouts and kavadis. While their family members will be staying in their respective camps.
In the wake of Covid-19, the forest department has directed the mahouts and kavadis to leave their families behind, before camping on the palace premises, according to DCF Alexander.
Like many others, the family members of mahouts and kavadis were eagerly waiting for Dasara every year. It was a privilege they were entitled to along with their parents, which they will be missing for sure this year.
Tent school and library were opened only to educate these children during their stay here. However all these educational and recreational activities are cancelled this year due to Covid-19.
It has been also decided to restrict the rehearsal of elephants to Palace premises. No general public will be allowed to go near the elephants. Both mahouts and kavadis will also be kept out of people’s reach, as the health of caretakers is equally important, the DCF added.
