Folk singer Sukri Bommagowda passes away

Mangaluru: Noted folk singer, Padmashree Sukri Bommagowda passed away on Thursday. She was 88.

A resident of Badageri village in Ankola taluk, Uttara Kannada District, Sukri Bommagowda, was known for rendering Halakki tribe folk songs. She was in the forefront of movement against liquor in her village, that brought her into prominence.

She was a recipient of Padmashree Award and Janapada Sri award in 2017 and Nadoja Award in 2006.

Sukri Bommagowda who was popular as Sukrajji, was ailing for sometime and had been admitted to a hospital here. She had been discharged from the hospital and had been home, where she passed away at around 3.30 am.
