Five from Bengaluru drown in V C Canal at Mandya

Mandya: Five persons from Neelasandra in Bengaluru, drowned at V C Canal in Mandya district at Basaralu police station limits on Tuesday.
The deceased including 10- year-old Mehatha had come to their grandmother’s house at Hallagere. While going to Nagamangala in two vehicles, around 15-20 members stopped by seeing the brimming V C Canal at around 11-30 am.
Mehatha slipped into the canal and immediately other four tried to rescue her, but all five drowned in no time.
While fire and emergency services personnel succeeded in retrieving three bodies and shifted them to nearby hospital for postmortem, the search is on for other two bodies in the canal.
