2 min read

Dakshina Kannada: Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO), a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University) will start the four-year BA (Hons) in Media and Communication, beginning this academic year.

NICO is the first in Dakshina Kannada to begin this program which is in tune with the requirements of the National Education Policy (NEP).

Established in 2012, for the past nine years, NICO has been offering BA & MA in Mass Communication & Journalism.

A healthy blend of theory and practice, the curriculum of the BA (Honours) program is in keeping with industry requirements and includes subjects like Animation, Social Media Marketing, Short Filmmaking, Photography, Introduction to VFX, Data Journalism, Advertising and Event Management, among several others.

Divided into eight semesters the program also offers Value Added Courses in the third and sixth semesters and Electives in the seventh and eighth semesters. The curriculum is designed in such a way that if a student wants to exit after three years, he/she can do that and would still be introduced to different subjects under Media and Communication.

Multiple exit options are another feature of this program. The exit options are listed here:

On completion of the first two semesters of the BA (Hons) program and having met specified requirements including minimum CGPA, the student can exit with a Certificate in Media and Communication

On completion of four semesters of the BA (Hons) program and having met specified requirements including minimum CGPA, the student can exit with a Diploma in Media and Communication

On completion of six semesters of the BA (Hons) program and having met specified
requirements including minimum CGPA, the student can exit with a BA in Media & Communication

A media college which organises the Nitte International Film Festival every year, NICO regularly conducts workshops on a variety of subjects and has some of the best names from the industry coming to the institute and interacting with students.

The classes will commence from the first week of October 2021.
