First conviction in ACB case! School warden accused of bribery proven guilty, jailed for seven years

Mysuru: A government officer convicted of bribery has been sentenced to seven years of simple imprisonment and slapped with a fine of Rs 20,000.

It is also the first case of conviction in ACB cases filed in Mysuru. 

Ganapathi Jakati warden of Morarji Desai Model Residential School, Golur in Nsnjangud taluk is the convict, according to Kaliyanda Mutthamma Punacha special prosecutor, ACB, Mysuru.

Judge Jerald Rudolph Mendonca of Third Additional District and Sessions court also the Lokayukta Special Court pronounced the judgment on Monday.

The case dates back to December 26, 2016, when one Ramprasad J had lodged a complaint with ACB, Mysuru.

Ramprasad who is into into computer sales and service and UPS installation had provided related services to Morarji Desai School at Golur. The bill was Rs 24,601.

Jakati and the principal Manjaiah had demanded Rs 2000 towards sanctioning the bill. Jakati had even shown the complainant the photocopy of the cheque for the billed amount.

Following this Ramprasad had lodged a complaint.

Jakati fell under ACB trap as he was caught red handed while receiving the bribe amount.

Jakati was sentenced to three years of imprisonment under section 7 and four years under section 13 (1) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and Rs 10,000 fine each.

In both the sections, the convict will have to serve additional imprisonment of six months if he fails to pay the fine amount in lieu there of.

While second accused in the case principal Manjaiah was acquitted in the case.

The investigation was conducted under the supervision of then ACB DySP H S Gajendra Prasad, Inspectors Anil Kumar, H N Vinay and Shekar.
