Mysuru: The farmers at Kochanahalli at Varuna hobli in the taluk who had sowed seeds of protest have started to reap.

On March 23, the farmers had sowed various types of grains like black eyed beans (Halasande), Urad dal (Uddu), green gram (Hesaru Kalu) and Jowar.

Among them, black eyed beans has started to yield and a quintal of crop was harvested on Sunday.

The farmers protest against Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has entered 97th day.

Heritage Golf Company and Total Environment had purchased 400 acres of land at the rate of Rs 1.75 lakh from farmers. They had also promised jobs to the family members of land losing farmers. However, they didn’t start functioning, but sold about 150 acres of land to KIADB at Rs 47.5 lakh per acre.

As the companies failed to keep their promise of providing jobs, the farmers thwarted the bid of KIADB to take the land into their possession on March 23.

As a mark of protest, they sowed seeds of various grains, which have started to yield.

Farmers from Kochanahalli Govindaraju, Devanna, Mahadev, Lakshmamma, Ratnanma, Kalamma, Devamma, Hanumanthu and Shivanna Nayaka took part in the harvest. Karnataka Rajya Raita Sangha, DSS, Janandolanagala Mahamytri and AIUTUC are supporting the protest.
