Farmers maintain social distance, stage protest against APMC Act

1 min read
Mysuru: The proposed Land Reforms Act and Model APMC Act are anti-farmer and we will not allow them to be implemented, warned Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association President Kurbur Shantakumar

On Thursday, Shanthakumar and other farmers assembled near DC’s Office and raised slogans against State and central government. The model APMC Act will facilitate corporates and real estate mafia. They will buy agricultural lands and gradually the productivity will go down. Farmers will lose rights on his land and hence it is a highly cataclysmic Act, he alleged.

Shantakumar also mentioned that APMC Act-2017 exploits farmers and will allow corporate companies and industrialists to directly buy agriculture produces from farmers. Here farmers will have to face many problems, as they do not get at least minimum price for their produces. They will be solely dependent on buyers choice. Across the state, several APMCs will have to shut doors if this Act is implemented, he claimed

Already farmers are in distress and suicide rate is increasing as they are still reeling under the effect of pandemic. The governments are literally gambling with farmers community, he rued.

We will not stay home, as we will make sound on streets and show the solidarity against dangerous Acts, he added.

Farmers maintained social distance and took part in the protest by wearing mask.

Later Farmer leader Shanthakumar handed over a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner B R Poornima.
