Farmer in horticulture minister’s home district cries for help

Nagamangala: Farmers across the State are in a fix for the dwindling demand for crops and lack of market and transportation facilities due to lockdown in place.

Similar is the plight of farmers in Mandya district also the native of Horticulture Minister Narayan Gowda. Gowda is also the district incharge minister.

At Mulakatte village in Nagamangala taluk, farmer Satish had grown water melon in three acres of land. With the good yield, especially ahead of summer, he was also expecting a better price. However the pandemic Coronavirus that struck the globe poured water on all his hopes of making a windfall.

He had invested heavily and has been forced to sell the fruit under pressure to whatsoever price, that has so far helped him in recovering at least half of the investment. The wholesalers and middlemen are asking for 50 paisa to Re one per kg, rued Satish.

Though the pitiable condition of farmers is being brought to the notice of Horticulture department officials, it is not helping the farmers, alleged Satish.
