Fans install Vishnuvardhan’s statue, MCC calls it illegal, removes statue

Mysuru: Tension prevailed for sometime as the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) authorities cleared the statue of Kannada film actor late Vishnuvardhan at the park next to the north gate of Palace on Saturday.

On account of their favourite actor’s 71st birth anniversary, the fans had installed the statue at the Park named after the actor, in the midnight.

Since last 10 years Vishnuvardhan’s fans and followers were demanding to install the statue at the park. But the authorities had paid no heed to the demand.

Irked fans, went ahead and installed the statue at the park.

As it came to the notice of City Corporation, they removed the statue, citing it illegal as no prerequisite permission was taken.

It triggered tense moments for sometime as the fans were upset with the move of MCC. They are staging a flash protest in front of the main entrance of the park. 

Vishnuvardhan who had acted in over 200 films, passed away at the age of 59 on December 30, 2009 in Mysuru.
