Mysuru: A 29-year-old youth from Halaguru in Malavalli taluk who was declared brain dead has become a beacon of hope as his family donates his organs to save five lives. Abhishek A N was rushed to Apollo BGS Hospitals in Mysuru after he fell at BWSSB Main Gate, TK Village, Malavalli taluk on August 18.
Initial CT scan showed brain stem infarct and he was shifted to ICU immediately for life support and intensive care.
Abhishek was kept on life support for four days while he was in a very critical state. On Aug 22, he was declared brain dead due to brain stem failure, as per the hospital protocol stipulated by the Transplant of Human organs act 1994 by panelist doctors at Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysore.
Abhishek A N was healthy before this incident, and further test confirmed his eligibility for organ donation. His family was counseled for organ donation as per the defined protocol. His family came forward to donate his organs. As per organ donation protocols, officials from Jeeva Sarthakathe which was earlier known as ZCCK initiated the process by the organ recipients waiting list.
Abhishek’s Organs – 2 Kidneys, 1 Liver, Heart Valves and Corneas – were harvested, and cross-clamp was done at 9 Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru. His organs like Liver were donated to needy recipient Apollo BGS Hospitals, Mysuru; one single kidney to Jss Hospital, Mysore; one single kidney to Sigma Hospital, Mysore; heart valves to Narayana Hrudayalaya, Bengaluru and corneas to K R Hospital, Mysore.
Apollo BGS Hospitals is the Licensed Centre for Multiorgan Transplants in Mysore which is now recognised as the 5th Zone for Organ Transplants under SOTTO, Karnataka.
