Mysuru: Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, is organizing a six-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS)” with a STEMS perspective (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Society) from February 17 to 22 at its Lingaiah Hall.

Padmashri S Subbaraman, Retired Superintendent Archaeologist at ASI, India, will be the chief guest and will inaugurate the event on February 17 at 10 am.

Gopal Reddy, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at VVCE, emphasised the growing significance of IKS in contemporary education, especially in light of its inclusion in the National Education Policy (NEP-2020).

He noted that while IKS is an important area of study, particularly in the realms of Mathematics, Water, Wellbeing, Education, and Technology, the integration of IKS with STEM fields remains a challenge in engineering and technical education.

The FDP will explore several critical aspects of IKS, including its sources, philosophical foundations, methods, and its role in various domains such as water conservation, wellness, and mathematics.

There will also be a focus on the vocabulary of IKS, and its relevance in Kannada. This FDP aims to provide a deeper understanding of Indian Knowledge Systems, while facilitating discussions on their integration into modern engineering education

The program is expected to attract participants from engineering colleges across the state.

Gundappa Gowda, President of Vidyavardhaka Sangha (VVS), P Vishwanath, Secretary of VVS and Shobha Shankar, Vice Principal of VVCE, will also be present.
