Experts discuss ‘IEEE Projects on Emerging Technologies’ at GSSSIETW

Mysuru: GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women ( GSSSIETW), Mysuru, IEEE student branch and IEEE WIE Affinity Group in association with IEEE Bangalore Section and IEEE Circuits and Systems (CAS) Society Bangalore Chapter had organised a webinar on “IEEE Projects on Emerging Technologies” by Dr Lance Chun Che Fung, Emeritus Professor, Murdoch University, Australia, Chair, IEEE R10 Educational Activities Committee, Past Chair, IEEE New Initiatives Committee.

The session began by welcoming the panel members, resource persons and participants by Dr Parameshachari B D, Prof and Head, GSSSIETW, IEEE Student Branch Counsellor and convener of this webinar series.

Dr Lance Chun Che Fung, Emeritus Professor, Murdoch University, Australia highlighted about IEEE which is the world’s largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

One of the organisational units in IEEE is Women in Engineering (WIE). The goal of IEEE WIE is to facilitate the recruitment and retention of women in technical disciplines globally. It aims to establish a network of IEEE members and volunteers dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists, and inspiring girls around the world to follow their academic interests in a career in engineering and science.

Initially, Dr Lance discussed about the percentage of IEEE membership across the country and board of directors. He explained the role of members in each boards, activities conducted under each board, how to form a committee, sections, subsections, chapter, affinity groups, student branches.

In his talk, Professor Chun Che Lance Fung gave an overview of IEEE and WIE, and the benefits of being an IEEE member. He also highlighted about the projects supported by IEEE New Initiatives Committee (NIC) and the Future Directions Committee (FDC) which has brought significant impact and implications to the industry and general public.

He discussed in detail about the top 10 strategic technology trends for the year 2020 and the opportunities, challenges in each technology.

He also emphasised various growth stage models such as PIAGET’S stages of cognitive, Nolan’s stages growth models, Gallier’s stages of growth mode and maturity models.

Shivakumar M, Principal, GSSSIETW, Mysuru gave the concluding remarks for this webinar. He also congratulated Dr Parameshachari B D for organising this informative webinar series.

Dr Raghavendra Prasad S G was the panelist for this webinar series, which was appreciated by the participants. They expressed that this webinar gave valuable inputs and most of the doubts related to “IEEE Projects on Emerging Technologies” were cleared by the resource persons.
